AQA A Level Exam Timetable 2027: Dates, Subjects and Start Times
AQA A-level exams in the May/June 2027 timetable run from Monday 10 May to Friday 18 June 2027. However, students must remain available until Wednesday 23 June 2027, the designated exam contingency day.
The start times are 9:00am for morning exams and 1:30pm for afternoon exams. Your school will confirm your reporting time and any adjustments to these start times.
This guide organises the AQA A-level Summer 2027 timetable by subject, with paper codes, dates, sessions and durations.
A-level results will be available to students on Thursday 12 August 2027. Before adding exams to your calendar: match every paper code to your statement of entry. Follow your school’s personal timetable for arrival times, exam rooms, access arrangements and any timetable clashes.
AQA A-level 2027: key dates at a glance
What to check | Date or time |
First scheduled A-level written exams | Monday 10 May 2027 |
Last scheduled A-level written exam | Friday 18 June 2027 |
Contingency day: remain available | Wednesday 23 June 2027 |
Published morning start | 9:00am |
Published afternoon start | 1:30pm |
Modern Foreign Language speaking window | 19 April–28 May 2027 |

Your own exams may finish before 18 June. That does not remove the requirement to remain available for the contingency day. Practical assessments, performances, speaking tests and non-exam assessment deadlines may also fall before the written exam period.
How to read the tables
Each subject table has three columns:
Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
Paper / code | The paper number and component code to check against your entry |
Exam date | The day and date of the exam |
Session · duration | Morning or afternoon, followed by the paper’s length |
AM = morning, normally 9:00am. PM = afternoon, normally 1:30pm. All exam dates below are in 2027.
The durations shown are the published standard durations. Your centre will confirm any approved extra time or other access arrangements.
Check A-level and AS codes carefully
AQA AS and A-level qualifications have different codes and timetables. For example:
Subject | A-level code used in this guide | Separate AS code |
Mathematics | 7357 | 7356 |
Biology | 7402 | 7401 |
Chemistry | 7405 | 7404 |
Physics | 7408 | 7407 |
Psychology | 7182 | 7181 |
History | 7042 | 7041 |
If your entry has an AS code, use the AS timetable rather than the A-level dates below.
Mathematics — 7357
All three AQA A-level Mathematics papers are in the afternoon and last 2 hours.
Paper / code | Exam date | Session · duration |

Fine art | 7202 |
Graphic communication | 7203 |
Textile design | 7204 |
Three-dimensional design | 7205 |
Photography | 7206 |
The externally set assignment is issued on or after 1 February 2027. The timetable lists 15 hours for the externally set assignment and a centre submission deadline of 31 May 2027.
There is no single nationwide written-paper date to copy into your calendar for these assessments. Your school arranges the supervised sessions and internal deadlines.
Coursework, NEA and practical deadlines explained
AQA’s timetable mixes exam appointments with administrative submission deadlines. These serve different purposes.
An exam date tells you when to sit a paper. A submission deadline tells your school when assessment information or work must be submitted.
Your school may require your work considerably earlier to allow time for marking, checking and administration.
Component or assessment | Published date or window |
|---|---|
Most listed NEA components and science practical endorsements | Centre submission by 15 May 2027 |
Art and Design | Centre submission by 31 May 2027 |
French, German and Spanish speaking components | Submission by 1 June 2027 |
Modern Foreign Language speaking tests | 19 April–28 May 2027, subject to AQA’s five-week restriction |
PE moderation visits — corrected window | 1 March–1 May 2027 |
PE assessment submission | Two weeks before the visit; listed latest date 1 May 2027 |
Music performance recording | 1 March–15 May 2027 |
Dance practical visits | 1 March–31 May 2027 |
Drama visiting assessment | 1 February–31 May 2027 |
Ask each teacher for your student deadline, particularly where practical work, performances or coursework contribute to the qualification.
What time do AQA A-level exams start?
The published times are:
Morning: 9:00am.
Afternoon: 1:30pm.
The timetable permits schools and colleges to start an exam up to 30 minutes before or after the published time without notifying AQA.
That flexibility belongs to the centre. It does not mean students can choose when to arrive.
Always use your school’s confirmed start and reporting times. Approved access arrangements may also affect when you finish.
Is reading time added to the exam duration?
No additional reading time should be assumed. The timetable states that any allowed reading time is already included in the published duration.
What is the A-level contingency day in 2027?
The designated contingency day is Wednesday 23 June 2027.
It exists in case national or significant local disruption requires an awarding body to rearrange exams.
Remain available through 23 June, even if your final scheduled paper is earlier. When planning holidays, travel or work commitments, use the contingency date alongside your personal exam timetable. This is not an extra exam that every student will automatically sit. Your centre will tell you if contingency arrangements affect you.
Potential timetable clashes to check
A same-session overlap needs your exams officer’s attention. It does not automatically mean you must miss a paper: your centre determines the permitted arrangements.
The examples below are drawn from the timetable and are not an exhaustive clash list.
Date · session | Selected papers sharing the session |
|---|---|
10 May · AM | Economics Paper 1 + English Language Paper 1 |
12 May · AM | Philosophy Paper 1 + Politics Paper 1 |
19 May · AM | Business Paper 2 + Philosophy Paper 2 + German Paper 1 |
20 May · PM | Geography Paper 2 + Further Mathematics Paper 1 + Law Paper 1 |
21 May · AM | Physics Paper 1 + Sociology Paper 2 + Environmental Science Paper 2 |
26 May · AM | History Paper 2 + German Paper 2 |
27 May · AM | Law Paper 2 + Religious Studies Paper 1 + Spanish Paper 1 |
7 June · PM | Biology Paper 1 + Computer Science Paper 1 |
8 June · AM | Physics Paper 3 + Religious Studies Paper 2 |
10 June · AM | Chemistry Paper 2 + Sociology Paper 3 |
10 June · PM | Further Mathematics Paper 3 + Law Paper 3 |
15 June · AM | Computer Science Paper 2 + French Paper 2 + Modern Hebrew Paper 3 |
If two of these are your entries, send your exams officer both full component codes.
AQA’s notes say that students taking more than one exam in a session should take them consecutively, with a supervised break at the school’s discretion. More complex arrangements must be handled by the centre.
Also check for overlaps with any subjects you take through another exam board.
Busy exam days worth preparing for
Some combinations fall on the same date but in different sessions:
Date | Morning → afternoon |
17 May | Accounting Paper 1 → Economics Paper 2 |
19 May | Business Paper 2 → History Paper 1 |
20 May | English Literature → Geography, Law or Further Mathematics |
25 May | Psychology Paper 2 → Further Mathematics Paper 2 |
26 May | History Paper 2 → Mathematics Paper 1 |
7 June | Economics Paper 3 → Biology or Computer Science Paper 1 |
9 June | Psychology Paper 3 → Mathematics Paper 2 |
10 June | Chemistry Paper 2 → Further Mathematics Paper 3 |
Prepare both papers before the day itself. Avoid a revision plan that depends on doing substantial new learning between morning and afternoon exams.
A demanding final week for Maths and science students
Students taking Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology should notice this sequence:
Date | Exam |
Monday 14 June | Biology Paper 2 · PM |
Wednesday 16 June | Mathematics Paper 3 · PM |
Thursday 17 June | Chemistry Paper 3 · AM |
Friday 18 June | Biology Paper 3 · AM |
If you also take Computer Science, Paper 2 falls on Tuesday 15 June morning.
Bring preparation for this week forward. The gap between finishing one paper and beginning the next may be much shorter than the dates initially suggest.\
How to build a revision plan from the timetable
1. Make one combined list
Copy only your entered papers into a single calendar, ordered by date. Include speaking tests, practical appointments and your school’s coursework deadlines.
A combined view makes it easier to see the pressure points across subjects.
2. Highlight three things
Mark:
Same-session papers that need centre arrangements.
Days with both morning and afternoon exams.
Consecutive exam days with little recovery or revision time.
3. Plan around your first exam
Economics and English Language begin on 10 May. Biology written papers begin in June. Those subjects need different final revision schedules.
Do not use one generic “start revising in May” plan for every qualification.
4. Use the interval between papers carefully
A gap in one subject may contain several exams in others. Count the revision time you actually have, rather than the calendar days between two papers.
5. Practise at the correct duration
Use the exact paper’s time allowance when completing timed practice. In particular, check the differences between English Literature A and B, the three-hour essay papers, and the combined Further Mathematics Paper 3 options.
6. Keep a short final-review list
After each practice paper, record specific actions: a calculation to repeat, a definition to learn, an essay weakness to address or a topic to revisit. This creates a manageable revision list for the final days before each exam.
