How to read the timetable
Each main subject table has three columns:
Column | What it means |
Paper / code | The assessment and component code |
Exam date | The day and date |
Session · duration | Morning or afternoon, followed by the exam length |
AM means morning. PM means afternoon. All dates below are in 2027.
Foundation and Higher tiers
For tiered papers:
F = Foundation.
H = Higher.
When a table shows 8300/1F or 1H, you take the version for your entered tier, not both.
Foundation and Higher papers share the same scheduled dates in the subjects listed here. However, language paper durations can differ by tier.
The durations shown are standard durations. Your centre will confirm any approved extra time or other access arrangements.
English Language — 8700
Paper / code | Exam date | Session · duration |
Paper 1 — 8700/1 | Mon 24 May | AM · 1h 45m |
Paper 2 — 8700/2 | Tue 8 June | AM · 1h 45m |
Both English Language papers are in the morning. Paper 1 covers creative reading and writing; Paper 2 covers writers’ viewpoints and perspectives.
The separate Spoken Language component, 8700/C, has a centre submission date of 7 May 2027. Your school will arrange the assessment and its own completion deadline.
Planning tip: English Literature takes place earlier than English Language. Keep the two qualifications separate in your revision calendar.
English Literature — 8702
Paper / code | Exam date | Session · duration |
Paper 1 — 8702/1 | Wed 12 May | AM · 1h 45m |
Paper 2 — 8702/2 | Wed 19 May | AM · 2h 15m |
Paper 1 covers Shakespeare and the nineteenth-century novel. Paper 2 covers modern texts and poetry.
Watch the duration: Paper 2 is 30 minutes longer than Paper 1.
If you also take Computer Science, 19 May includes English Literature Paper 2 in the morning and Computer Science Paper 2 in the afternoon.
Mathematics — 8300
Foundation and Higher Mathematics use the same dates, sessions and durations.
Paper / code | Exam date | Session · duration |
Paper 1: non-calculator — 8300/1F or 1H | Fri 14 May | AM · 1h 30m |
Paper 2: calculator — 8300/2F or 2H | Thu 27 May | AM · 1h 30m |
Paper 3: calculator — 8300/3F or 3H | Mon 14 June | AM · 1h 30m |
All three Maths papers are morning exams.
Paper 1 is the non-calculator paper. Papers 2 and 3 are calculator papers.
Planning tip: Mathematics Paper 3 falls on 14 June, followed by Chemistry Paper 2 the next morning for students taking separate Chemistry or Combined Science: Trilogy.
Which Science timetable should you use?
Check the qualification code before copying any science dates.
Science route | Codes | Written-paper structure |
Separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics | 8461, 8462, 8463 | Two papers per subject; 1h 45m each |
Combined Science: Trilogy | 8464 | Six papers; 1h 15m each |
Combined Science: Synergy | 8465 | Four papers; 1h 45m each |
Do not combine the rows from different routes into one personal timetable. Use the route and tier shown on your entry confirmation.
Biology — 8461
Paper / code | Exam date | Session · duration |
Paper 1 — 8461/1F or 1H | Tue 11 May | AM · 1h 45m |
Paper 2 — 8461/2F or 2H | Thu 10 June | AM · 1h 45m |
Both Biology papers are in the morning.
Planning tip: there is a long gap between Papers 1 and 2. Keep Paper 2 revision active throughout May rather than waiting until June to return to Biology.

Paper / code | Exam date | Session · duration |
Paper 1 — 8462/1F or 1H | Mon 17 May | AM · 1h 45m |
Paper 2 — 8462/2F or 2H | Tue 15 June | AM · 1h 45m |
Both Chemistry papers are in the morning.

Physics 2 — 8464/P/2F or 2H | Fri 18 June | AM · 1h 15m |
In the shortened code labels above, the alternative retains the full prefix. For example, Biology 1 Higher is 8464/B/1H.
Important: Trilogy papers share dates with the corresponding separate-science papers, but are 30 minutes shorter. Use your own paper’s duration during timed practice.
Combined Science: Synergy — 8465
Synergy has four papers, each lasting 1 hour 45 minutes. All are morning exams.
Paper / code | Exam date | Session · duration |

Papers 1 and 2 cover Life and Environmental Sciences. Papers 3 and 4 cover Physical Sciences.
Synergy finishes on 15 June, whereas Trilogy finishes on 18 June. Check the qualification code rather than relying on a generic “Combined Science” calendar.
History — 8145
Paper | Exam date | Session · duration |
Paper 1: Understanding the modern world | Thu 20 May | AM · 2h total |
Paper 2: Shaping the nation | Fri 28 May | AM · 2h total |
Why does the official timetable also show one-hour History entries?
Each paper is made up of two sections:
Paper 1: one Section A option plus one Section B option.
Paper 2: one Section A option plus one Section B option.
The individual sections appear as one-hour entries in the subject list. Your complete paper lasts two hours, not one hour.
Which topics go on which date?
Exam date | Your selected topics |
20 May: Paper 1 | One period study, such as Germany or America, plus one Conflict and Tension option |
28 May: Paper 2 | One thematic study, such as Health and the People, plus one British depth study, such as Elizabethan or Norman England |
For example, Germany 8145/1A/B and Conflict and Tension between East and West 8145/1B/C are both Paper 1 sections on 20 May.
Health and the People 8145/2A/A and Elizabethan England 8145/2B/C are both Paper 2 sections on 28 May.
Planning tip: revise both sections for each date. Finishing preparation for one topic does not mean you are ready for the whole paper.
Geography — 8035
Paper / code | Exam date | Session · duration |
Paper 1 — 8035/1 | Tue 18 May | AM · 1h 30m |
Paper 2 — 8035/2 | Wed 26 May | PM · 1h 30m |

Watch the sessions: Paper 1 is in the morning, while Papers 2 and 3 are in the afternoon.
The 2027 timetable lists 1 hour 30 minutes for Paper 3. Use that published duration when planning timed practice.
Students taking Geography and Biology, Trilogy or Synergy have a science paper in the morning and Geography Paper 3 in the afternoon on 10 June.

Religious Studies B — 8063
Paper / component | Exam date | Session · duration |
Paper 1 — 8063/1 | Thu 13 May | AM · 1h 45m |

RF/RH: Reading Foundation/Higher.
WF/WH: Writing Foundation/Higher.
For example, 8633/WH is Italian Higher Writing: 11 June, morning, 1h 15m.
Do not apply the one-hour Foundation Writing duration to French, German or Spanish. Their Foundation Writing papers are 1h 10m in this timetable.
Speaking appointments are arranged by the centre within the published speaking window.
Language speaking tests: what students need to know
The published GCSE Modern Foreign Language speaking window is 12 April–21 May 2027.
AQA notes that schools and colleges can test during only five weeks within this window. Your school will tell you which date and time apply to you.
The timetable lists 24 May 2027 as the speaking-component submission date.
These are different things:
The speaking window is when tests can be scheduled.
Your appointment is the date and time you attend.
The submission date is an administrative deadline for the centre.
Do not put 24 May in your calendar as your speaking exam unless your school has explicitly given you an appointment and explained its arrangements.

Because the deadline depends on the centre’s arrangements, obtain your actual completion date from your PE teacher. Do not treat the printed submission date as a personal hand-in deadline.
Media Studies — 8572
Paper / code | Exam date | Session · duration |

Photography | 8206 |
For these qualifications:
A portfolio component ending /C.
An externally set assignment ending /X.
10 hours for the externally set assignment.
A centre submission date of 31 May 2027.
There is no single national written-paper date to copy into your calendar. Your school arranges the supervised assessment sessions and its own deadlines.
Coursework and NEA: submission dates are not exam appointments
An exam date tells you when to sit a paper. A submission date tells your centre when assessment information must be submitted.
Your school usually needs time to mark, check and process work before the awarding-body deadline. Follow the completion date given by your teacher.

This guide focuses on GCSEs, with Level 2 Further Mathematics clearly identified separately. Entry Level Certificates and Project qualifications in the source document have their own requirements.
What time do AQA GCSE exams start?
The published start times are:
Morning: 9:00am.
Afternoon: 1:30pm.
AQA’s notes permit schools and colleges to start an exam up to 30 minutes before or after the published time without notifying AQA.
That flexibility belongs to the centre. It does not mean students can choose when to arrive.
Use your school’s confirmed reporting time, especially where:
Two papers are scheduled in the same session.
You have approved extra time or rest breaks.
A language session contains both Listening and Reading.
A timetable clash requires special arrangements.
Any allowed reading time is already included in the stated exam duration.
The GCSE contingency day: keep 23 June available
The designated contingency day is Wednesday 23 June 2027.
It is reserved in case national or significant local disruption requires an awarding body to rearrange exams.
Students must remain available through 23 June, even if their personal timetable finishes earlier.
This does not mean everyone automatically takes an extra exam that day. Your school will inform you if contingency arrangements affect your exams.
When planning holidays, travel or work commitments, check the contingency date as well as the date of your final scheduled paper.
Potential same-session clashes
The following are selected examples from the timetable. They are not a complete personalised clash report.
Date · session | Selected assessments sharing the session |
10 May · PM | Citizenship Paper 1, Psychology Paper 1, German Listening/Reading |
11 May · PM | Sociology Paper 1, Mandarin Listening/Reading, Urdu Listening/Reading |
13 May · PM | Economics Paper 1 and PE Paper 1 |
17 May · PM | Media Studies Paper 1 and Psychology Paper 2 |
18 May · PM | Sociology Paper 2 and German Writing |
20 May · PM | Citizenship Paper 2, PE Paper 2, Mandarin Writing, Polish Listening/Reading |
24 May · PM | Food Preparation and Nutrition and Italian Listening/Reading |
25 May · PM | Economics Paper 2, Media Studies Paper 2, Urdu Writing, Bengali Listening/Reading |
26 May · PM | Geography Paper 2 and Modern Hebrew Listening/Reading |
27 May · PM | Music and Panjabi Listening/Reading |
8 June · PM | French Writing and Modern Hebrew Writing |
11 June · AM | Engineering, Level 2 Further Mathematics Paper 1, Italian Writing |
11 June · PM | Panjabi Writing and Polish Writing |
If you are entered for two assessments in the same session, contact your exams officer with the full component codes.
Do not assume that you must miss a paper, and do not independently move an exam. AQA’s notes provide for consecutive exams and, at the centre’s discretion, supervised breaks.
Remember to check your AQA papers against any subjects taken with another exam board.
Busy days with morning and afternoon exams
Different-session papers are not the same as a direct clash, but they still affect revision and energy.

Prepare for both assessments before the day arrives. Use the interval for food, a short reset and light review, following your centre’s supervision rules.
How to turn these dates into a revision timetable
1. Start with your statement of entry
Copy your full paper codes into one list. Confirm your tier and science route before adding dates. This prevents common errors such as using a separate-science duration for Trilogy or copying Spanish dates from an older syllabus.
2. Add assessments that happen before written exams
Include language speaking appointments, Art sessions, Drama performances and your teachers’ NEA deadlines. Your exam preparation may need to peak before 10 May.
3. Highlight crowded periods
The first two weeks contain many subjects, including Computer Science, Biology, English Literature, Maths, Chemistry, Geography and History. Bring preparation for these papers forward. Avoid relying on the evening after one exam to learn the next subject.
4. Prepare for both papers in each subject
Several subjects have a substantial gap between Paper 1 and Paper 2. Keep later-paper content active instead of abandoning the subject once its first paper is over.
For example, Biology Paper 1 is on 11 May, while Paper 2 is on 10 June.
5. Use the correct time allowance
Practise with the duration for your actual paper:
Separate science: 1h 45m.
Trilogy science: 1h 15m.
Synergy science: 1h 45m.
English Literature Paper 2: 2h 15m.
Complete History paper: 2h.
French, German and Spanish Foundation Writing: 1h 10m.
6. Plan your final week before it begins
For students taking Maths and separate sciences or Trilogy, the final week includes:
Date | Morning exam |
Monday 14 June | Mathematics Paper 3 |
Tuesday 15 June | Chemistry Paper 2 |
Friday 18 June | Physics Paper 2 |
Additional subjects may fill the days between them. Complete substantial revision before this week rather than assuming it will be mostly free.
AQA GCSE results day 2027
GCSE results are available to students on Thursday 19 August 2027.
The timetable distinguishes between the centre release and the student release:
Recipient | Date |
Schools and colleges receive results electronically | Wednesday 18 August 2027 |
Results available to students | Thursday 19 August 2027 |
Your school will confirm collection arrangements or online access. The earlier centre date is not the normal student results day.

Keep 23 June 2027 available for contingency arrangements, even if your final scheduled exam is earlier.
Where should I check for updates?
